The core principle of waterjet cutting (high-pressure water jet cutting machine) is cold processing using ultra-high pressure boosting + high-speed jet + abrasive micro-cutting. Water is pressurized to 200–600 MPa (approximately 30,000–90,000 psi) and channeled through an extremely fine nozzle (0.08–0.5 mm aperture) to form a high-speed water jet exceeding Mach 3. When necessary, abrasives such as garnet are mixed in, achieving heat-free cutting of almost all materials. The entire process is free of high temperatures, does not generate a heat-affected zone, does not alter material properties, and produces smooth cuts with controllable taper.

While waterjet cutting can cut a wide variety of materials, it is prone to shattering when cutting tempered glass. It is recommended to use ordinary glass or a specialized process. Materials with high reflectivity (such as copper and aluminum) are not suitable for laser cutting, but waterjet cutting is unaffected by reflectivity, resulting in superior cutting performance.

1: From the perspective of cutting materials
Abrasive waterjet cutter: Suitable for hard/difficult-to-cut materials such as metal, stone, ceramics, glass, and composite materials.

Pure waterjet cutter: Suitable for soft/heat-sensitive materials such as plastics, foam, rubber, wood, leather, and food.

2. From the perspective of maximum cutting thickness:

≤50mm: 300MPa/380MPa General type

50–150mm: 410MPa/420MPa High-pressure type

150mm: 500MPa/600MPa Ultra-high pressure

3. From the perspective of processing size:
Common table sizes: 1500×2000, 2000×3000, 2000×4000mm. Generally, a size 100–200mm larger than the largest workpiece is chosen for easier processing.

4. From the perspective of machine configuration:

Pressure (most important):

380MPa: Highest cost-effectiveness, mainstream general type

420MPa: Higher efficiency, more stable for thick materials

600MPa: Dedicated for thick plates/hard alloys, more expensive consumables

What a bridge cutter cannot do, a waterjet cutter can:

1. A bridge cutter can only cut straight lines, 45° angles, simple bevels, or large arcs; a waterjet cutter can cut any irregular shape, including mosaics, inlays, and artistic patterns.

2. A waterjet cutter can cut a wider range of materials than a bridge cutter, such as glass, metals (stainless steel, copper), multi-layer composite boards, carbon fiber, and acrylic.

3. Waterjet cutting produces less waste, and it is also faster when cutting thin sheets.
